The first and most important relationship is the one with ourselves. Our past experiences have shaped the person we are now. But that doesn't mean that defines us, and it doesn't mean we can't ditch those habits or negative beliefs that really don't work anymore.

By having a deeper understanding of ourselves, we are more able to create much better relationships with others in our world, whether personal, romantic, or professional.

Severine Menem is a non-diet weight loss nutritionist. Her approach: tweak a few habits, try some new foods, and you will see the results.

In this episode Severine talks about  - 

How our relationship with foods start a lot sooner than you would expect, at childhood

How clients would often tell her that they don’t like this or that food because they were forced to eat it as a child, at home or at school

Parents say that they don’t encourage their children to try new foods because they don’t like these foods themselves

Parents often teach children how to relate to food eg. - you’ve been good so you’ll be rewarded with food. but we are not dogs!!!

How food is used for everything nowadays, eat, comfort when bored, sad, happy, social … but rarely for what it’s meant to be a fuel that nourish the body. it’s actually when we start to listen to our body that we get to start nourishing our body and we feel the best we’ve ever been, and this lead to weight loss. 

People who want to lose weight vs people who need to lose weight

Trying too hard (and willing to be a perfectionist) =  failure

Self love and forgiving our imperfections to that we can work on improving ourselves one step at a time

Eleven years ago Severine burned out at her job in the financial markets. She took it as a sign to start making her health a priority rather than her career. While recovering, she realised she had been suffering from hypothyroidism, and was showing many of the symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, depression, being constantly cold. Taking the prescribed medication helped her to get back on track but not to recover enough. It’s only when she started experimenting with dietary & lifestyle changes that the magic happened: 3 years after being diagnosed, she managed to reverse the hypothyroidism diagnostic, and she has stabilised her thyroid levels ever since. She found the power of foods so incredible she decided to retrain as a nutritional therapist and help others make the most of the their diet while enjoying their food - something that is very important to her as a French national.
